Chapter 5
At the Masque Fashion Show during “Les Pinks” section, Louis created a stir by shouting out “Je voudrais acheter cette belle robe” (Translation= “I would like to buy this beautiful dress”). He bought the dress during the interval. And continued to court Fi. She had perhaps outrun her stay at Hotel La Muette.
At the hotel where Fi was staying, it had not gone unnoticed by the manager and staff that Louis had been sneaking into her room at night – leaving early each morning. Staff were gossiping, and the news had got round to guests also about the young Scottish woman – and the goings on.
Their romance was intense. Louis was besotted with Fi, and this was mutual. He asked Fi to move in with him the evening that he bought the dress for her.
The morning that Fi checked out, Valentin (hotel manager), his wife Albertine, and Patrizia – moved the single beds apart (which of course Louis & Fi had pushed together to form a double bed). The room has now been made ready for the next guest/s. Fi has arranged for a long leave of absence from her job as manager at Fitz Dolz in Mossy Well.
It seems hard to imagine going back to the store. She has very little experience of romantic relationships. Louis has told her that he thinks it is clear that they are meant to be together. He can afford to support her, and if at some stage she wants to work – there is nothing to stop her. But she will need to learn French!

Louis tells Fi that Brigitte Bardot was one of the sexiest French film stars. But she is very old now and he thinks she is somewhat of a recluse.
